Enter the Shroud: Bloodoak Leviathan

What a peculiar flower ...
What a peculiar flower ...

Linara's nose twitched. The scent was impossible to miss floral, yes, but with a deep rot beneath it. It clung to the air like a warning. She crouched low beside the strange bloom, its violet petals unfurling like the grin of something that had learned to mimic beauty just a little too well. The flower pulsed softly, as though breathing.

"Are you certain this just appeared?" she asked over her shoulder.

Behind her, Brother Mossback sat in his usual meditative posture, perched atop a moss-covered stone, brows furrowed beneath the weight of wisdom and concern. His voice rumbled gently. “This glade was clean just two days ago. Now the rootweave is torn, the birds have fled, and that… thing grows where the sun doesn’t reach.”

Linara flicked open her journal, her tail twitching. “Rot-touched flora, responding to high Essence saturation. Possible Bloodthorne corruption. Could be residual ...”

A distant thump cut her off. Then another. The trees groaned. Something massive pushed its way through the undergrowth branches cracked, leaves scattered in panicked spirals, and a pulse of unnatural Essence surged through the glade. From the shadows emerged a towering figure, bark and bone woven together into a monstrous silhouette. Its body was an ancient, walking atrocity half tree, half arcane monstrosity. Two immense tree-trunks rose from its shoulders, pulsing with a sickly glow as runes flickered to life across their surface. The air shimmered around them, distorted by the energy building within. Purple arc-light crackled from gnarled bark, casting brief glimpses of the monster’s twisted face eyes like hollow knots, staring with an ancient and insatiable hatred.

It lumbered forward, slow but unstoppable. The ground trembled with each step.

Linara stood frozen, ink dripping from her quill.

“I’ve read about them,” she whispered. “I didn’t think they were real.”

The Blookoak Leviathan on the tabletop

Bloodthorne armies all around Astira heartily welcome their newest member, the Bloodoak Leviathan! This dedicated ranged model excels at dealing heavy damage at a distance. Corruption? Yes. Heavy damage? Yes. Pinpoint accuracy? Not that much.

The Blookoak Leviathan is a living siege engine, perfectly suited for obliterating heavily armoured targets at high range. Its towering form allows it to ignore other models for line of sight purposes when needed, and its explosive ammunition is particularly lethal against clusters of low-armored enemies.

The Leviathan’s key ability is its Spore Capsule manifestation. This not only blocks line of sight shielding your fragile, high-value Bloodthorne units from enemy fire but also spreads infestation tokens to any enemy foolish enough to enter its area of effect.

Synergies

The Bloodoak Leviathan can be a staple choice for many Bloodthorne armies, thanks to its powerful manifestation. Still, Morgath, the Elderwood Scourge, values its long-ranged firepower like no other Bloodthorne Weaver. Not only does he further extend the range of its ranged weapon, but he also provides a crucial hit bonus via the Hexed condition.

Besides that, the best allies of a Bloodoak Leviathan are friendly models that keep it out of melee combat. Once engaged in close quarters, its damage output drops significantly. Bloodoak Juggernauts and Sporebound Corruptors are ideal for screening this vital ranged unit from enemy fighters, giving it the time and space to eliminate threats from a safe distance.
